Data Centre Manager
Ian's first experience of data centres began in Birmingham, when he was responsible for five data centres. He then moved to the University in 2011, joining Cambridge Assessment to manage the data centre at the Science Park. In 2013 Ian moved to UIS, to oversee the completion of the WCDC project and ultimately transition into operational support.
Ian is currently focusing on the redeployment of Cambridge Assessment's infrastructure into the WCDC, monitoring systems development, and capacity planning expansion projects.
Critical Senior Services Engineer
Terry monitors the Building Management System, setting up maintenance contracts, physically checking the building every day, undertaking weekly testing in the Data Halls and the physical electrical work.
He has worked for various contractors before joining the University, working on multi-million sites in London. Terry started life at the University working at the Department of Engineering for 15 years, before joining UIS in 2014.
Dan Nkomo and Adrian Pigden
Data Centre Operations Technicians
Dan and Adrian joined us in July 2015. Their work involves monitoring the data halls, managing the different platforms, installing new equipment into cabinets, networking and manning the data centre helpdesk.
Dan joined us from Host Europe Group (HEG), working in data centres in Germany, Essex and Leeds, while Adrian previously worked as a Senior Technician for Netherhall School and Sixth Form.
They are currently familiarising themselves with the WCDC, learning about its systems, and ensuring the accuracy of the data in our inventory system prior to migrating it into a new system.
Mike's time is split between projects for both UIS and the WCDC. He has previous experience at two other Universities, before coming to Cambridge.
He was primarily brought on board to manage Data Centre projects and to help manage the data centre operators.
