Normal operating schedule

Reception and Service Desks

Computer and network services

All services normally run with operations staff present (attended operation), subject to the holidays and vulnerable periods shown below, as follows:

Monday to Friday 0800 - 1700

At other times they run with no operations staff present (unattended operation).

 

Vulnerable periods

The following periods are designated as vulnerable. During these periods, services may be interrupted for maintenance or other dedicated work.

*Announcements about when these services are likely to be disrupted during vulnerable periods are made 24 hours in advance (or, for deferred emergency maintenance, by 15.00 the preceding period) in UIS News (which is syndicated on the UIS Website homepage) and, where possible, on the appropriate systems.

 

Notes:
08.45–09.00 and 17.00–17.15 are avoided when possible.
17.00–19.00 is not normally used for non-urgent work that might disrupt a significant part of the CUDN.

 

Holidays

Information Services will be closed for the following holiday periods during 2015:

Easter 2016 Good Friday 25 March 2016 and Easter Monday 28 March 2016
Early May Bank Holiday Monday 2 May 2016 (closed to personal callers)
Spring Bank Holiday Monday 30 May 2016 (closed to personal callers)
Summer holiday Monday 29 August 2016
Christmas and New Year Closed from personal callers from 5.00pm Friday 23 December 2016 to 8.30am Tuesday 3 January 2017. Arrangements will be made to provide support for specific services.

 

Unattended operation

When a service is running unattended, if it should fail, the service might not be reinstated until the next period of attended operation. In practice, staff monitor services from time to time outside normal working hours and are often able to reinstate them, but this can not be relied upon.
