Office Professional (Windows) and Office for Mac Standard (Mac) is for institutionally-owned, shared devices
This is only for devices owned by qualifying institutions and must be for work or academic use only. It can not be installed on personally owned devices by staff or students.
In due course, however, this software may be purchased at a nominal cost to the individual and installed on personal devices, for work purposes, under the Work At Home Rights scheme when it becomes available for Cambridge staff.
Student use of software on shared Institutionally-owned devices
Students can use the software on shared devices owned by the University or a qualifying Institution (e.g. in teaching rooms), but they can't order, download or install on personally-owned devices.
Institutionally-owned devices provided to individual students as part of their studies while at Cambridge
Software on devices owned by a qualifying Institution, but provided to a single student for the duration of their studies/research, is not covered under the terms of the EES Agreement, and the necessary licences must be purchased as normal.
Office 365 ProPlus is for personal devices
Staff and students will be able to install Office 365 ProPlus on up to 5 desktop/laptop PCs, 5 tablets and 5 smartphones – 15 devices in total – while qualifying under the EES agreement.
This software is upgraded frequently via Microsoft and checks licence numbers against the University's records, meaning that continued use is automatically disabled when the student or staff member leaves the University.
