Welcome to Cambridge

University Information Services (UIS) provides the core services that underpin the University’s comprehensive IT facilities. We manage the private data network, through which we deliver a wide range of IT services to individuals, colleges and Departments – including productivity tools and storage solutions.

We also offer an extensive programme of free training courses to help you develop your IT skills while you are here.

UIS computing services and facilities

This page outlines the computing facilities provided by UIS for the University’s administrative staff, including members of the Unified Administrative Service (UAS).

Network access

University staff in the Unified Administrative Service (UAS) or administrative users in departments are connected to the Administrative Computing Network (ACN). This is linked to the Cambridge University Data Network (CUDN), which provides the University’s high-speed link to the internet.

Wi-Fi connectivity

The University Wireless Network provides mobile connectivity to many public areas throughout the city centre.

eduroam (roaming access)

eduroam is an international initiative that provides shared roaming internet access to its member academic institutions. You can connect to eduroam wireless access points in Cambridge and at other member sites worldwide using a token pre-configured with your Cambridge credentials. Likewise, users from other member institutions can connect to the eduroam network in Cambridge.

Visitors without eduroam access can be given temporary access to the UniOfCam WiFi network: http://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/wireless

Outlook email and calendaring

The UAS email system is MS Outlook on MS Exchange. Outlook is also used for calendaring.

Your email address will be your firstname.lastname@admin.cam.ac.uk or your CRSid (i.e. your login name at Cambridge) followed by the @admin.cam domain, e.g. fjc55@admin.cam.ac.uk.

How to access your email

You can access your email in a number of ways:

UAS accounts

Your account is associated with your username and email address and gives you secure access to any PC on the ACN, as well as various remote access systems, as dictated by your line manager and University Information Services (UIS). All UAS staff will have a number of mapped drives available to them for storing data. You can find out information about managing your UAS account and password, and storage space available to you at: www.uis.cam.ac.uk/uas-accounts.

Remote access for UAS users

UAS users can access their email and the UIS admin environment while away by using UAS Webmail (Exchange Server 2013) or UAS Webmail (legacy server), gaining remote access to the standard desktop environment or to your work PC and the applications on it. Raven web authentication

Raven is the login system used to identify you before allowing you to access restricted information and online resources. You will be given your Raven credentials when you receive other account details. For more information: https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/raven.
