An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University for an experienced Senior Application Specialist to join the Student Systems team.

Located within University Information Services (UIS), the Student Systems Technical team are responsible for the maintenance and development of the University's critical ERP systems for handling student data.

Working on both operational support and project activities, you will assist with the development and maintenance of our student systems in support of strategic initiatives, whilst improving efficiency and reducing technical debt. You will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft and associated technologies whilst providing a high level of support to our customers, often in a lead capacity.

Your work will be varied and unique, and will involve working closely alongside other Application Specialists, Database Administrators, Functional Analysts, Testers and our stakeholders in a constantly changing environment.

Main responsibilities:

• To be a technical subject matter expert in our student systems and integrations.
• To take responsibility for the implementation, development and support of our student systems in operational and project settings.
• To provide 2nd and 3rd line support activities, providing support to end users for complex technical problems.
• To design and develop quality technical solutions in response to business requirements.
• To review and migrate code, including the analysis of security patches and upgrades.

Main skills & experience:

• Knowledge of Oracle Peoplesoft applications (preferably Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 9.2 / PeopleTools 8.60).
• Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft front-end/web development tools and techniques.
• Knowledge of database design, Oracle SQL, system design, performance tuning and integration.
• Knowledge of how to approach data and system security.
• Experience of providing 2nd/3rd line support as part of an operational support team.
• Experience of coordinating technical change in operational and project settings.

We are seeking a Desktop Service Analyst to join our team and be the first port of call for technical queries, solving complex technical problems of UIS and our services in person, by telephone or remote support via Teams or Zoom etc.

The role holder works as part of a Desktop and System support team providing a wide variety of services. A Desktop Service Analyst provides 1st and 2nd line support functions to a large group of diverse IT environments, leading to a wider range of problems than would normally be encountered by typical Departmental or College IT staff and therefore this role requires a wider range of expertise, strong and considerable problem-solving abilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform both first and second tier support via remote or onsite means.
• Prioritise and diagnose incidents and requests according to agreed procedures.
• Investigate causes and seek resolution.
• Escalate unresolved incidents and facilitate recovery.
• Act as the main contact point, receiving and handling requests for support via multiple channels.
  
• Resolve a broad range of service requests based on the UIS service catalogue and procedures.
  
• Analyse causes of incidents and inform service owners to minimize probability of recurrence and contribute to service improvement.

Skills, Qualification and Experience:

• The holder is expected to have a good education to HND or degree level in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience.
• The chosen candidate will have demonstrable knowledge and have comprehensive administration experience in at least two of the following technologies:

Microsoft operating systems and their applications packages Apple Macintosh / iOS MS Intune Microsoft Entra / Azure Office 365 Networking

• Excellent technical trouble-shooting skills are required, including an understanding of how desktop systems operate in a client server environment.
  
• Excellent communications skills are critical for the role.

The role

An exciting opportunity has become available for an ITSM Support Technician to join our team. The ITSM Support Technician will support the UIS ITSM tool (Current Ivanti HEAT). The UIS ITSM system supports 300 analyst users across UIS (The University of Cambridge's central IT team) and also groups outside UIS.

We are currently at the start of a project reviewing our ITSM tool with the aim of migration to a different tool. Working in collaboration with analysts, with ample training and learning opportunities, the ITSM Support Technician will be instrumental in selecting, implementing and migrating users over to the new tool.

As a ITSM Support Technician you will:

• Provide support to the analysts who use our ITSM tool.
• Support the ITSM System Manager, working closely with our Service Desk manager, in developing our ITSM tool.
• Promote the use of the ITIL framework in collaboration with our ITSM tool.

This position is a permanent, full-time role, usually based on the University's West Cambridge Site.

The Finance department at the University enhances their E-Business reports with IBM Cognos Analytics reports. The reporting is provided by the University Information Systems department. The report analyst role is to support this reporting function, along with some interfaces to other bespoke systems. The role entails building and supporting bespoke Oracle DataMarts. The design of the DataMarts uses dimensional modelling, largely using ETL. Oracle PL/SQL is the predominant tool in building the DataMarts, but there is some ODI use, primarily for scheduling builds.

• Design, develop and unit test improvements to the Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes.
• Check overnight ETL, investigate and fix any failures.
• Monitor performance and other operational aspects of the ETL and work with DBAs to resolve any issues or suggest enhancements.

Applications are invited for the position of Engineering Lead at the Institute of Computing for Climate Science (ICCS). In the face of the present climate crisis, there is pressing need for skilled software engineers to collaborate with climate scientists in delivering a new generation of high-quality, high-performance, and high-assurance models. The Engineering Lead will steer a highly-specialised Research Software Engineering (RSE) team that develop and improve complex scientific applications to enable the research agendas of the associated climate science teams and ICCS. The role holder will work in close synergy with researchers across multiple disciplines to develop research software to tackle problems across a range of subfields within climate science.

ICCS is one of the Schmidt Sciences Virtual Institutes of Scientific Software that are working to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery. The Engineering Lead will work directly with six groups funded as part of Schmidt Sciences' Virtual Earth Systems Research Institute (VESRI) to directly address specific computational and research software needs of climate scientists across an international spread of University-based climate modelling groups and national labs. The team of RSEs that this post will manage also interacts with researchers based at ICCS. Thus, this leadership role provides a unique opportunity to be involved in projects directly connected to climate science but also broader research into supporting climate science through computer science, software engineering, and data science.

The Engineering Lead will collaborate with the Head of Research Software Engineering and the Computer Science lead. The post also includes funding to support travel to conferences and for training activities to support career development as well as an affiliation with Queens' college.

As an HPC Data Centre Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, integrating and maintaining the data centre infrastructure owned by the Research Computing Services (RCS). You will work on technical, physical and software infrastructure projects, to ensure that RCS infrastructure is reliable, secure, and efficient. You will lead and mentor HPC Data Centre Technicians in their daily work, you will ensure that, alongside the HPC Data Centre Infrastructure Manager, their work is clearly planned, checked and signed off. You will have experience working in an agile environment both in maintaining existing and building new HPC Infrastructure hardware.

There are 2 roles available; one role is server focused, the other is network focused, the role responsibilities are:

Network focused role responsibilities

• Maintain the configuration of the ethernet switches onsite, employing templated techniques such as configuration deployed via ansible.
• Ensure that network hardware is secure, accessible and operational.
• Data connection design for new integrations.
• Asset management of network hardware and data connections.
• HPC fabric network (i.e. InfiniBand) topology design and integration.
• BoM creation for ethernet and InfiniBand based on design brief.
• L2 and L3 network fault escalations.

Server focused role responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain the power load, including the implications of adding new hardware, phase balancing, PDU selection and configuration.
• Monitor and maintain cooling systems experience with RDC's and DLC is a strong advantage.
• Assist (alongside vendors and the HPC Data Centre Infrastructure Manager) with the design of cooling for new systems.
• BoM creation for server, cooling and power based on design brief.
• Initial startup configuration of servers such as BMC (Baseboard Management Controller).
• Ensure that servers and cabling is finished to a high standard for new integrations.
• L2 and L3 server fault escalations.

Responsibilities which apply to both roles:

• Hardware - asset management, health monitoring.
• Planning - integration and maintenance.
• Services - assist with the smooth running of the fault rota, triage requests from internal customers such as the platforms team and the RSE team.

• The University's internet connections to its supplier, Janet.

The broad spectrum of activities include:

• Planning and carrying out discovery research to inform the design of user journeys that may span multiple websites, as well as the design of individual websites.

• Collecting and analysing ongoing user feedback and analytics data on live websites, to assess what is working well and less well for users and to identify key areas for improvement.

The Lab is housed within Research Computing Services a leading UK National Supercomputing Centre and home to Dawn, the fastest AI supercomputer in the UK, providing facilities and services to world-renowned scientists, clinicians and engineers across the UK and Europe.

As an Exascale Software Engineer you will work in a small team alongside academics and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects. The aim of the team is to develop and optimise advanced scientific applications for the next generation of supercomputers. They will help domain specialists in the development of high-performance codes. These range from helping develop internationally important simulation codes to producing new approaches to science problems using Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence.

Candidates are expected to have:

• A degree in a computational science, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience writing and maintaining high-performance application code.
• Experience in the key languages commonly used in scientific computing such as C, C++ (preferred), Fortran or Python.
• Experience with at least one of the frameworks used to exploit large, modern parallel computers such as MPI, OpenMP or CUDA.
• Some high-level knowledge of the hardware that forms a modern supercomputer (i.e. CPUs, XPUs and low-latency interconnects).
• Experience of working in the Linux software environment will be advantageous.
• Proven ability to work effectively within a team and individually.
• Experience of working in a scientific environment and/or providing support to researchers will be advantageous.
