University Information Services

We’re planning to upgrade and restart the University Data Network (UDN) distribution routers on the following dates to apply the latest recommended firmware before the start of Michaelmas 2023:

  • Friday 15 September: dist-oadd
  • Monday 18 September: dist-hosp / dist-north / bdr-janetc
  • Tuesday 19 September: dist-mwest / dist-nms / bdr-janetw
  • Wednesday 20 September: dist-sidg / dist south / core-cent
  • Thursday 21 September: dist-opress / dist-clin /core-hills
  • Friday 22 September: dist-west / dist-down / core-mill

Each restart will take about 15 minutes. During this period, institutions connecting to these routers will lose redundancy. We expect the first router will restart around 07:45 and the next router will not restart until back-up and redundancy has been restored on the previous one. The combinations of routers should typically not result in a single institution losing both connections on the same day.

We’ve scheduled work on border and core routers on different days to maintain function at those layers of the network. Both border and core can operate with lost redundancy while routers reload.
