What information does Gartner provide?

Our licence for the Gartner database covers members of the Regent House, current University staff, and students reading for a degree.

Gartner allows you to discover, track and assess technologies, applications and companies across global IT markets.

You can use the service to view different types of reports (see http://www.gartner.com/it-glossary/):

  • Magic Quadrants are a culmination of research in a specific market, giving you a wide-angle view of the relative positions of the market's competitors.
  • Hype Cycles provide a graphic representation of the maturity and adoption of technologies and applications, and how they are potentially relevant to solving real business problems and exploiting new opportunities. The methodology gives you a view of how a technology or application will evolve over time.
  • MarketScopes rates a market itself and helps you evaluate its participating technology providers against the Gartner vision for that market.
  • Vendor Ratings assess all the different aspects of a technology provider, such as its strategy, organisation, products, technology, marketing, financials and support.

Gartner also provides access to technology webinars, podcasts and event information.

Academic licenses for Gartner do not include access to all Gartner research and services. For example, 'Dataquest Market Insight' reports, and conference calls with Gartner analysts are among the exclusions.
