Patient consent is a central theme of the Human Tissue Act. Labs working with patient traceable data should make efforts to prepare for a day when a patient or relative removes consent.

The Tissue Tracker allow a simple Patient record to be created which can then be referenced by any Tissue Items belonging to that Patient.

Each Patient record has:

  • one owning Lab.
  • a reference, that must be unique within the owning Lab.
  • Date-in
  • Notes. A free text field for any other patient information.

Viewing Patient Data

With the Patient-Items link established, the web application provides a convenient page to display all of the Items of a single Patient.

List a Patient's Items

In addition, it is possible to edit all of the Tissue Items of a single Patient in one screen:

Editing a Patient's Items

Labs that expect to manage more than one Tissue Item per identifiable Patient should create and maintain the links between that data. Labs that only ever have one Item per Patient can omit that Patient record if the Item reference provides enough traceability.
