From initial system implementation to ongoing support, you'll acquire extensive experience in new enterprise technologies. Gain subject matter expertise in our timetabling systems, actively participating in large project implementations and providing continuous systems support.

Collaborate with users, providing guidance on leveraging information technology for business objectives and effective problem-solving. Dive into user requirements, explore IT solutions, oversee enterprise system implementations, and deliver ongoing support for issues and change requests. Engage with in-house development teams and external vendors, offering your expertise and support.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide user support for timetabling and booking systems.
  • Perform annual system maintenance & configuration activities.
  • Ensure that systems and procedural documentation is maintained and accurate.
  • Triage helpdesk tickets for timetabling and booking systems.
  • Perform business analysis and requirements gathering for changes and projects.
  • Scope projects and engage in the project planning.
  • Research options and propose solutions for projects.
  • Support project implementations, user training and onboarding activities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Hands-on experience in lecture timetable creation and maintenance.
  • Business analysis, requirements gathering or change management (ideal but not essential).
  • Administrative background with general knowledge of IT systems (ideal but not essential).
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with a keen interest in learning new technologies.
  • Positive customer focused attitude.
  • Comfortable navigating and finding solutions.
  • Comfortable with analysis of large data sets and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Degree (2:1 or higher) or equivalent work experience.

Principal HPC Systems Manager

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check.

This role is based in Research Computing Services (RCS) a leading UK National Supercomputing Centre and home to Dawn, the fastest AI supercomputer in the UK, providing facilities and services to world-renowned scientists, clinicians and engineers across the UK and Europe.

The successful candidate will manage a team of highly technical specialists with a focus on High-Performance Computing (HPC) and storage systems. The role will play a critical function in advancing the University of Cambridge's research computing capabilities in HPC, Big Data and AI. The responsibilities encompass leading, designing, implementing, and managing HPC and storage infrastructure to support the cutting-edge research conducted by the University's academic community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of the HPC and storage systems, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers and faculty to understand their computational requirements and tailor solutions to meet their specific needs.
  • Provide expert guidance on best practices for HPC system architecture, storage technologies, and data management strategies.
  • Manage a team of skilled engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in HPC and storage, and evaluate their potential benefits for the university's research community.
  • Develop and implement security protocols and policies to safeguard sensitive research data.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in designing, deploying, and managing HPC systems and storage solutions.
  • Proficiency in cluster management software, parallel file systems.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and mentor a technical team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with researchers, faculty, and cross-functional teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux-based operating systems and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with research computing environments, scientific applications, and workflows is highly desirable.
